BACARDI JIM: |
"The best damn detective in Rain City." Born in Saudi Arabia, BJ travelled the Orient extensively, picking up a black belt in tae kwon do before landing in the U.S. at age 20. After marrying his first wife, Beachgal, the couple moved to Rain City. Originally an employee of Joe Terror, BJ founded Desert Moon Investigations with partner and protege Llewellyn in the fall of 1999. BJ at one time had the distinction of being married to five women at once, the famous Harem, but is now back down to just his first love. The couple are some of the wealthiest people in town, due mostly to Beachgal's dazzling manipulation of their investments. Bacardi Jim is known primarily for his three month undercover operation which netted an indictment against Bri Bettaker. He is also the detective who obtained the evidence that Alan Paulson was financing Rain City's hamster racing ring (due mostly to his trusty border collie, Misty) and who found the original Bloodhound NT diskette. Currently, BJ is primarily focused on unearthing evidence to put an end to Griswold Baer's endless appeals of his death sentence. |

BEACHGAL: |
The oldest of four sisters, Beachgal was BJ's first wife, and he still calls her "Chiefwife" sometimes. Hired straight out of Harvard by Gastrique, Howler, and Bragg, Beachgal (BG to her friends), quickly became one of their top associates, apparently on the "fast track" to make partner. However, she left the private sector when Baby C asked her to be her first Assistant D.A. in 1999. Respected as a fair and sympathetic negotiator, Beachgal is often sought out as a mediator in legal and personal disputes. Her business acumen is legendary, and it was she who was the motivating force on the Rain City Chamber of Commerce to push for national and global corporations to locate and advertise in Rain City. Her public visibility has made her a target, and she has been the victim of a kidnapping and an airliner crash which was intended to kill her. |

LLEWELLYN: |
"The best DARN detective in Rain City." Llew is perhaps Rain City's most eligible bachelor, though for the last several months, he has been involved in a steady relationship with former Bacardi Jim protege Kaylie. BJ and Llewellyn met in the middle of a rainy night in the streets of Rain City, and the rest is history. Instant friends, BJ took Llew under his wing, and within a few days, the two were talking about becoming partners. The friends had a falling out while BJ was undercover, when Llewellyn slept with Okgal, then one of BJ's wives, but became business partners after BJ and Okgal divorced. Llewellyn is known not only for his keen mind, but also for his vast knowledge of folk songs, his practice of pagan Wicca, and his hatred of Brits and Vulgarians, the latter a hatred he shares with Bacardi Jim. |
OKGAL: |
One of the first two or three residents of Rain City. Okgal was BJ's second wife, and the one who taught him the detective trade, though, by her own admission, his talents quickly outstripped her own. Okgal was known for her fierce temper and equally fierce loyalty. Frequently at odds with her husband, and sometimes with her sisterwives, Okgal and the Harem were amicably divorced in the fall of 1999. Seemingly happy and getting on with her life, the town was shocked to hear of her bloody suicide in September on '99. It was later discovered that she had, in fact been murdered by James Haeford, a Vulgarian assassin, with whom she had a burgeoning romantic interest. |
RAINBOWMOM: |
BJ's third wife, RBM was another of Rain City's original residents. One of two spies who helped found Rain City, RBM has rarely practiced her trade, perhaps awaiting "activation" by her Vulgarian superiors, and closely guards the secret of her occupation. Jealousy in the Harem led to their divorcing RBM in June/July of 1999, and the despondent woman actually enlisted the aid of attorney friend Atthe' Barr in faking her own death in retribution. Since then, RBM has remained unattached, and it is rumored that she secretly hopes for a reconciliation with her former husband and sisterwives. An excellent actress, Rainbowmom is involved with the Thunderstruck Thespians, Rain City's amateur theatrical troupe. |
SACRED ROSE: |
The other co-founder of Rain City who is a spy, Sacred Rose, unlike RBM, plies her trade with great success. She may well be one of the top-ranking spies in Rain City, second only to Number Two. Used primarily these days as a courier (perhaps to hide her true importance to the VSS), SR can often be seen lurking in the shadows and holding cryptic conversations with people who can't quite be seen. When Natalie Tonebasher uncovered the evidence that Alan Paulson was the money man behind Rain City's hamster racing, it was to Sacred Rose whom she entrusted the file. Unfornately for SR, she had chosen that same time to kidnap Bacardi Jim's dog, Misty, in order to clone the animal and replace her with a copy who had a radio transmitter implanted in her. Misty escaped SR's clutches, and also stole the file, bringing it to BJ when she returned home. (Sacred Rose and Bacardi Jim have been known to be arch-enemies almost from the day of his arrival in Rain City, and are virtually archetypes of the struggle of good vs. evil and law vs. anarchy.) SR was once thought to have been dead by suicide, but later reappeared hale and healthy. Though the coffin was exhumed, the identity of the body buried in her place remains a mystery to this day. |
SISTAHS: |
Sisters In Synch To All Happenings. This is a group of young women who have combined to fight evil in all it's forms in Rain City, and to keep their ears to the ground to support and help each other. Ironically, one of the co-founders of SISTAH, Picasso, is a spy, which often puts her in a position of conflicting loyalties. Once nearly adopted by the Harem, Piccy is still looked upon as a daughter by BJ and Beachgal. Her co-founder is Lessa, one of Rain City's most energetic citizens, and a devoted if not particularly successful detective. Piccy and Lessa are also known for their famous popcorn. Other members of SISTAH include Kaylie (BJ's failed first attempt at molding a young, novice detective), Katie (young litigator extrordinaire and perhaps future District Attorney) and Darkwind (about whom controversy abounds, and who led to a schism developing between SISTAH and the Harem). |
LADY ADARA: |
A true lady, almost Victorian in her sensibilities. Lady Adara is the founder of Thunderstruck Thespians, and sometimes seems not to recognize when she is on stage and when she isn't. Prone to fainting spells and unbelievably deep and instant romances, Adara is known for her elegant grace and can usually be seen wearing a blue velvet dress and drinking tea in the lobby of the Dampmore. Lady A was also involved with Vulgarian spy James Haeford when he was killed by Bacardi Jim. She recently married Baron Narconisis von Sexus. |
SWEETYPIE: |
Lady Adara's more adventurous companion. While both women are known to be friendly and talkative almost to a fault, Sweets is made of sterner stuff than her friend. Sweetypie recently found herself in the position of having inherited the leadership of Search, Capture, and Return (S.C.A.R.), an organization of detectives dedicated to apprehending and returning escaped convicts. S.C.A.R. was founded by Preacher, a Jamaican detective, after the death of Frank Friday, the surly half of Good Cop & Bad Cop, who originally fulfilled this function. Good Cop, Joe Morgan, has since been promoted to Lieutenant and rarely leaves R.C.P.D. headquarters. |
GYPSY: |
Originally one of S.P.I.T.E.'s most promising investigative reporters, Gypsy has lapsed into relative obscurity as a journalist after winning last year's Freddie for Most Promising Newcomer. She pulled off a press coup with her exclusive interview with Bacardi Jim after his sting of Mayor Bettaker, and is rumored to be sitting on the story of Paulson's backing of the hamster racing industry, as well as some mysterious findings in an underwater cave on Mount Thunderhead. These days, she seems to be concentrating on her second career as a belly dancer at the Drizzle Club, and delights in shocking and titillating people with her outrageous behavior, which includes streaking through Rainbow Park. |
MISTY: |
Bacardi Jim's trusty dog, she appears to be a border collie, though that is uncertain as she was actually found wandering in Rainbow Park and instantly attached herself to the detective. Besides her usual useful duties of keeping track of the Harem's herds of goats and camels, Misty has proven useful in other ways. She has the uncanny knack of being able to sniff out Vulgarian spies, on whose shoes she unfailingly urinates. She also procured (while dognapped by Sacred Rose for an evil spy/cloning experiment) the "Secret File" which contains the documents which prove that O'Malley was embezzling from Paulson, and which show Paulson to be financing Rain City's hamster racing industry. She was also instrumental in finding Beachgal after her plane crash. |
